Hospitality Show New Zealand 2006
One of my favourite annual events is the New Zealand Hospitality Show. The New Zealand Culinary Fare is a major attraction with the cooking events as exciting as any sporting event. It's a little like an Olympic compettion with teams competing for the cooking equivalent of a gold medal. I usually find a seat (if I'm lucky), at the front close to the action and follow one team from beginning to end. This year I followed the student team from the Wellington Institute of Technology.
How fun! I wish there were more events like this where I live :)
I can't believe I missed another Donna Day! And just when I got my 1st subscription issue and saw all the delicious fritters! Next time...

Oh, that's really cool! I'm so jealous. I love watching competitions like Iron Chef on TV; it must be great to see them live.

Joey - sorry you missed out on HHDD. You could still make the fritters they are delicious.
LA - it is such a lot of fun, especially if you have a seat and don't have to stand for 3 hours.

So how'd they go? Any medals?
Almost makes me miss wearing my whites!

Fantastic slide show, Barbara, wish I'd been there. What were the dishes 'your' team cooked? They look delish!

Bron - they got a silver. Unfortunately the lychee sorbet didn't freeze and wasn't on the plate so it would have lost them points.
Jude - if you enlarge the menu picture you might be able to read it. I didn't write it down hoping the menu pic would be clear enough.

Chris - it is amazing as you pick up all sorts of little cooking tips by watching the trained chefs.
